About NOVA

Why middle school?

“NOVA was a fabulous school for my daughter!! I know that some people consider middle school a “holding tank” for children…the place they “hang” in between elementary school and high school. Nothing could be further from the truth when it comes to my daughter and her middle school years at NOVA.”

Except for during early childhood, brain researchers believe that the brain experiences more growth in early adolescence than any other time in the life span. Therefore, middle school might well be the most important years in a child’s formal education. The benefits of a great middle school experience are unparalleled. We believe that a high quality middle school education builds a strong foundation for the future. A middle school program should directly address the special needs of the young adolescent: developing confidence, self-understanding, critical thinking, empathy for others, and an ability to advocate for oneself in future academic settings.

Students enter NOVA as children straight out of a 5th grade elementary setting, and three years later they leave NOVA as young adults, full of confidence, and understanding of their responsibility to themselves and their own education.

Many NOVA families choose a sojourn from public school for the vital middle school years, and send their child back to public high school with the skills and confidence necessary to navigate in the larger less personalized setting.

“My daughter came into NOVA with a number of academic holes. The overall academic program at NOVA patched those holes and built a solid foundation for high school. In the process, she gained immense confidence in her academic abilities.”
