NOVA's Annual Fund kicks off in the beginning of the school year and is a critical component of our financial support for our day-to-day operations. All revenue from the Annual Fund is used in the current school year.
The Annual Fund helps pay for class retreats, field trips, faculty salaries, professional development, classroom materials, co-curricular programs, utilities, campus upkeep, transportation, the library, learning resources, financial assistance and much more.
Instead of traditional third-party fundraising to support our financial operating needs, we ask parents, friends and other supporters for direct support in the form of a tax-deductible gift to the Annual Fund in lieu of asking students, and parents, to sell third-party items.
In the spring, the NOVA Gala brings together current and alumni parents, alumni, faculty, staff, and friends of NOVA, for a celebratory gathering that raises funds for NOVA students on financial assistance and special fund-a-need projects. It's a chance for families to get together for some fun while raising important funds for the school.
Q: What makes NOVA an independent school?
A: NOVA operates without financial support from federal or state government agencies, and is self-governed by our Board of Trustees. Unlike public schools, which are funded by tax dollars, independent schools rely solely upon tuition revenues and philanthropic gifts to meet operating and capital expenses
Q: Why not raise tuition?
A: One of our guiding principles for NOVA school is diversity, including socio-economic diversity. Our tuition is kept as low as possible to help ensure that NOVA remains accessible to as many families as possible.
Q: Could NOVA operate on tuition alone?
A: Not without looking significantly different. NOVA Middle School's integral components like low student-to-teacher ratio, faculty and curriculum development, technology, rich enrichment program, athletics and science equipment, and field trips would be compromised.
Charitable gifts are a vital part of an independent school’s strong financial profile.
