Because raising a highly capable child is easier when you're not doing it alone.
We value your role as caregiver in our community and believe that when families feel connected, students thrive. Here's what to expect as you walk alongside your child at NOVA.
A True Partnership
We see education as a collaboration between school and home. You'll be in regular conversation with your child's teachers, the Head of School, and staff—because working together helps your child succeed.
You can expect:
- A weekly school bulletin that keeps you up-to-date on upcoming events, key deadlines, and what's happening around campus.
- Insightful feedback from teachers about your child's growth in the classroom and beyond. We don't just teach subjects—we help shape learners.
- Open doors and open ears when you have a question, need support, or want to talk something through. We value respectful, real-time conversations and aim for mutual understanding.
Opportunities to Connect
We want you to feel at home here, whether you're new to NOVA or a returning parent. When parents feel a sense of belonging, students do too. That's why we offer:
- A pairing with a Parent Ambassador—a current NOVA parent who's been where you are and is here to welcome you, answer your questions, and share insider tips (like which school events have the best snacks!). They'll help you feel confident and comfortable from day one.
- New family welcome experiences that make joining the NOVA community smooth and celebratory (We want you to feel seen!).
- Casual social gatherings throughout the year, from coffee meet-ups to family game nights to the Big Bash in the spring. These are low-pressure ways to connect, share stories, and build real friendships.
Support for Your Growth, Too
Raising a highly capable learner is rewarding, but it can also be challenging, emotional, and with some unexpected twists. That's why we offer meaningful support for caregivers, too:
- Virtual parent education events on topics like anxiety, executive functioning, perfectionism, identity development, and more—designed to help you better understand and support your child.
- Curated resources and referrals to help you navigate the social-emotional and academic needs that can come with giftedness or twice-exceptionality.
- A community of caregivers who get it, who are happy to share what's worked, listen when things get hard, and cheer you on. It's not just your child who finds connection here—you do, too.
How You Can Get Involved
Community is something we create together. Whether you have lots of time or just a little, there's a way for every parent to contribute.
All NOVA families commit to 20 hours of service each year, and we make it easy (and often fun!) to get involved:
- Volunteer at events or in the office or a classroom—from chaperoning field trips to helping at school activities, your presence matters.
- Help organize teacher appreciation efforts, because our faculty and staff are amazing and deserve to feel the love.
- Serve on the Board of Trustees, if strategic thinking and school-wide impact are your jam.
- Share your professional expertise or community resources, whether that's speaking to a class, offering mentoring connections, or helping enhance an enrichment course.
Every contribution, big or small, strengthens our school culture and shows your child what it means to be an engaged, thoughtful member of a community.
